About the Founder of LARK Labs
As Program Coordinator for the Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning (HRAC) Program and the 313D Refrigeration Apprenticeship Program at Fanshawe College, I bring over 20 years of experience spanning hands-on industry practice, business ownership, and educational leadership in the HVACR sector. My career began with 14 years as the owner-operator of Mike's Heating and Home Comfort, where I gained firsthand insight into the real-world challenges faced by technicians and business owners.
For the past decade, I've served as an instructor at Fanshawe College, dedicating the last five years to leading the HRAC and 313D Apprenticeship programs, as well as the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program. This dual perspectiveโgrounded in both the field and the classroomโgives me a unique understanding of the evolving needs of the industry.
Recognizing the gap between traditional field experience and emerging technology, I've focused on developing innovative digital tools and training resources to bridge that divide. My work includes creating comprehensive mobile apps that consolidate essential calculators and resources for technicians, students, and business owners, alongside free training modules and practice exams for TSSA G3 and G2 certification.
I'm committed to advancing industry standards by developing certificate programs and digital solutions that keep HVAC professionals current with best practices and new technologies. Through these efforts, I strive to promote workplace safety, professional growth, and operational excellence across the Canadian HVAC community.
Sincerely,
Mike Kapin - Founder of LARK Labs
